The Department of English of Moran College was established with the inception of the college in 1964. But until 2005, the department imparted education in general English courses only. In July 2005, the faculties of the department decided to start major course in English in response to the demands of certain students who expressed desire to offer major in English in the college. Since then the department has contributed towards making of more than 200 English graduates. Among them there has been 15 first class graduates. In the year 2017-18 students Hussain and Sushmita Phukon brought glory to the department by securing 7th and 8th position under the Dibrugarh University.
